Jesus concludes his Beatitudes with a word of blessing for those who may suffer mistreatment because of their close identification with Jesus, yet he calls us to be “the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world,” so that we can be distinctive, transformative, and penetrating for the good of the world around us.
